Could You Tell Us A Bit About Yourself And How You Got Involved In Fitness?

I used to be overweight, miserable, and I was a relatively new mom with twin baby boys. One night, after stuffing my face with Halloween candy I broke down and couldn’t live this lifestyle anymore. I contacted my friend, Londerick Jamerson, and asked him for help. He told me I was going to do a competition. I thought he was crazy, but I am the adventurous type and gave it a go. I entered my first competition and won the show! I have been hooked ever since.

What Helps You Stay Motivated?

I have a lot of support from my trainer, Cliff Wilson, as well as our team, Team Wilson. My bigger motivator is my son and my family. He was born without a right hand and when I found out, I was devastated. Then, as he grew I saw what a fighter he was. My husband and I never wanted to baby him, but make him work to do things for himself. His first accomplishment was that he learned how to walk. Then, as he got older, he showed a lot of potential to be good at sports.

We decided to keep him in mainstream sports. This is when he started to excel as a true athlete. He batted .700 this summer in a competitive league, pitches, and plays first base. He also plays left tackle and dominates in tackles and sacks. He has a whole group of people that comes out to just to watch him play. Last year, we got a visit from Sean Salisbury, who came out to watch and cheer him on! Whenever I think I can’t do it, I look at him and remind myself, there are no excuses!!! He has been my hero since he was born.

I also have to give credit to my whole family. We always say, whenever one of us does well, the whole family does well. We celebrate as a family, not as individuals.

What Does Your Workout Look Like?

I workout 7 days per week. Whether it be just cardio, cardio and weights, or just out running around with me kids, I am always active. I currently train in splits. The following is an example of what my week looks like.

Monday:
High Rep Leg Day and 15 min of HIIT training
Tuesday:
Back and Biceps and 45 min of MISS Cardio
Wednesday:
Off Day (45 min of MISS Cardio)
Thursday:
Heavy Leg Day and 15 min of HIIT training
Friday:
Chest, Triceps and 45 min MISS
Saturday:
Delts, Abs and 45 min MISS
Sunday:
Off Day (still perform 45 minutes of MISS Cardio)

What Sort Of Rep Range Do You Use?

Sometimes I lift heavy and sometimes I lift lighter. I usually do not do high reps until I am in the final cutting stage before a competition. I want all the muscle I can get!

Free Weights Vs Machines What Do You Feel Are The Pros & Cons and Which Do You Prefer?

I use both actually. However, when I do use a weight machine it is usually the Hammer Strength machines. I prefer free weights because I like how you have to use your own balance to control the weights. Hammer strength machines allow me to do this without having to use a spotter sometimes.

What Mistakes Did You Make When You First Started As A Newbie?

I listened to a lot of people that said they knew what they were doing. I probably went through 5 or 6 trainers before I finally found Cliff Wilson. My recommendation to people when looking for a trainer is to do your homework.

I used to look at someone in shape and automatically assume that they knew what they were doing. I would suggest asking for references and looking at the trainers successes. Don’t be afraid to interview them like you are interviewing them for a job. I know it seems a little picky, but let’s face it, training is not cheap. It’s your money and you shouldn’t just give it to anyone.

How Often Do You Perform Cardio?

I do something every day! Whether it’s pounding on a machine at the gym, running outside, or throwing the baseball/football around with my boys.

Which Do You Prefer and Why… Steady State Cardio Or HITT Cardio?

I actually do both of these or what I call MISS and HIIT training. Both cardio methods stimulate different fibers in the muscles. I have had clients myself have great results on using both.

What Are Your Personal Thoughts On Fasted Cardio?

I am not a fan at all. If you do not have food in your system, guess what you are burning? That’s right! Muscle! We work so hard to obtain this precious commodity. I would rather hold on to it and take care of it.

What Does Your Diet Look Like?

I eat probably about 7 meals a day. I do not do the typical every 3 hours plan. I time what I eat and when I eat around my training. Here is a little sample of what I eat on a training day.

Meal 1:
Protein
Starchy Carb
Green Veggies
Meal 2: Pre-Workout
Protein Shake
Dextrose
Meal 3: Post Workout

Meal 4:

Meal 5:

Meal 6:

Do You Bulk and Cut Or Do You Stay Lean For The Whole Year Round?

I do build in the offseason but I don’t go too crazy. I like to stay as lean as I can while putting on muscle. This saves me a lot of headache by not having to do massive amounts of cardio to undo what I did in that off-season.

What Do You Find Gives The Best Results When You Are Cutting?

I am not a huge caffeine or stimulant consumer. However, whenever I am getting to the end of my pre-contest I use a liquid L-Carnititne and drink Green tea. Does the trick every time! The weight just starts falling off!

How Do You Deal With Cravings?

If I have cravings for junk food, yes, I actually have it!! The trick is to work it into your macros and I only do it on my off days. Otherwise, I crush up ice in the blender and add some grape flavoured amino acid powder to it. Mmmm tastes like a snow cone!!!

What Supplements Do You Use?

I do not use a lot of supplements. However, some of my favourites are MGN’s Isolate protein in the Rocky Road flavour. I also like their casein chocolate frosting mixed with peanut butter. There is a new product out by Muscle and Strength called Hydramino. It is a great combination of branch chain amino acids in powdered form. This is what I use to make those yummy snow cones. I also consume this throughout the day. Besides the green tea and L’carnitine right before showtime, that’s about it.

What Activities and Hobbies Do You Enjoy When You Are Away From The Gym?

I love watching my kids play baseball and football. I live in Texas so it’s a lifestyle down here.

What Are Your Favourite Supplements?

MGN Isolate Rocky Road – amazing taste and mixability

MGN Casein – Filling and great taste

Muscle and Strength Hydramino – Great taste, mixes well, and produces great results of maintaining muscle while cutting

Twinlabs-Liquid L-Carnititne – Fast absorption and really melts that fat!

What Is Your Favorite Workout Music?

I really like listening to the Black Eyed Peas. Really gets me motivated and my heart pumping!

What Is Your Greatest Achievement?

Making my Pro Bikini debut and winning!

What Is Your Favorite Quote?

The reason I exercise is for the quality of life I enjoy.
– Kenneth H. Cooper

What Do You Love About Competing?

The feeling when you get on stage and everyone is cheering for you! I relish every second on stage and take my time.

What Are Your Plans For The Future?

I am looking towards next year representing the United States and competing in Greece. I was going to do Natural Olympia, but decided to build and come back and kill it next year.

Who Are Your Favorite Athletes, Bodybuilders and Fitness Models?

Honestly, one of my favourite is Randy Tiner. He is a one armed bodybuilder that uses no excuses in his training. He also has a foundation called the ABLE foundation that helps other challenged athletes to compete. I also look up to my team, Team Wilson, as inspiration.

If Someone Wants To Connect With You How Can You Be Contacted?

I am in the process of having a website designed. But, I can be reached on the links below:
