About-Muscle talk with WBFF Pro Fitness Model Bree Lind, a personal trainer who earned her Pro Card at The 2010 WBFF World Championships
Could You Tell Us A Bit About Yourself And How You Got Involved In Fitness?
I am 28 years old and reside in Calgary, Alberta Canada. I started getting serious about training 2 years ago, but have 4 years under my belt. I guess you can say the first 2 years were spent learning a lot about diet and exercise, and developing proper technique and form. I have been involved in sports since I can remember. As a child my mom always had me in swimming lessons, ballet, you name it. As a teen I was involved in track, basket ball, volleyball, and eventually as an adult, weight lifting. The gym has always been an outlet for me. Whether I am happy, sad, frustrated, mad, the gym always calms me and every single time I leave I feel grounded, more calm, energized, and ready to take on the world.
What Helps You Stay Motivated?
I stay motivated by goal setting. I like to set a new goal once a week. It could be a tweak in my diet, or consuming more water, trying different exercises, or doing something really challenging. I get bored easily so changing things up is a must for me.
What Does Your Workout Look Like?
I am currently 12 weeks out of my first Pro show, so I am training like an animal. My training schedule is:
How Often Do You Perform Cardio?
I have struggled with doing too much cardio in the past and therefore didn’t see the muscle gains I should have. So now I restrict myself to doing 45 min 3 x a week in the off season and closer to competition I will up my cardio to 1 hour 5 x a week.
What Does Your Diet Look Like?
Diet is super clean. I totally believe the saying “you are what you eat”. My off season diet consists of 5 small meals a day that include carbs, fats, and protein.
What Do You Find Gives The Best Results When You Are Cutting?
I think for me it is a combination of everything. It is funny because just by cutting out maybe one carb meal and doing a little bit of extra cardio makes the biggest difference. I love waking up in the morning and seeing my body change each day. I can tell because my abs really start to come in.
What Supplements Do You Use?
My current supplements include a multivitamin, and most recently colostrum. For workout related supplements I use Magnum Nutraceuticals products. Magnum has an excellent line of supplements to meet all my training needs. Prior to my workouts I use a product called DNA. I noticed increased strength and endurance right away! My muscles also feel harder and are definitely more defined. DNA is strength guaranteed in 3 days or your money back that’s wild!
Along with the DNA, I also use Magnum Serum. This product gives me a great rush for my workout. It contains arginine and creatine and promotes strength without any bloating or water weight. After I train I enjoy a delicious shake by Magnum called Quattro, which also guarantees no bloating, and no gas. Quattro is amazing! www.hardmagnum.com.
What Are Your Favourite Supplements?
I was at the Arnold Classic in March, and I noticed a booth that was promoting colostrum. I remember using a face cream before one of my shows that had colostrum in it, and it helped to lessen the “depleted” look from dieting. I found that it worked really well for me, but was unaware that there was a supplement until one of my friends had suggested I start taking it after I was complaining about it being difficult for me to gain and keep muscle mass.
I did some research and was quite interested, but couldn’t find anywhere to purchase it beside on line. When I saw the booth at the Arnold it immediately caught my attention. I spent quite some time discussing colostrum with the lady who was working the booth and she offered to send me some samples once I returned to Canada.
True to her word, there was a package in my mailbox just a few short weeks later. Since taking the colostrum I have noticed a huge difference in my body. I feel stronger, and the proof is in the mirror. Definitely a supplement I would suggest looking into if you are a fitness competitor.

What 3 Exercises Have Contributed The Most To Building Your Physique?
Exercises I would pick that have been most beneficial to me would be pelvic hip thrusts super setted with kick backs. Total booty builder. Yes it is possible to build a bum. This year I have been working really hard on my delts as well, so any delt associated exercises have been extremely beneficial in my prep.
What Is The Most Common Training Question People Ask You The Gym?
That is a hard question for me to answer since I am a personal trainer and get asked all types of questions daily, but the one I get asked a lot and will never be able to give them the answer they are looking for is What type of pill can I take to make me fit? I laugh every time that question gets sprung on me, and then I advise the person that there is no magic pill and it doesn’t happen overnight. Only the strong succeed, and unless you’re willing to put countless hours into developing your physique, and follow a strict diet that includes only what your body needs, then this may not be the sport for you.
What Is Your Greatest Achievement?
My greatest achievement to date is receiving my Pro Card at The 2010 WBFF World Championships, and I am set to make my Pro Debut this August at The 2011 WBFF World Championship in Toronto. Since the beginning of my competing career I have seen a totally different physique develop. As the weeks fly by I am constantly seeing gains and watching the transformation unfold before my eyes. It is truly a great achievement when you compare pictures from each show and see the improvements.

What Do You Love About Competing?
In the beginning competing was a goal to conquer. At that time in my life I needed a time frame to accomplish something life changing. I didn’t realize then, that it would become such a huge part of my life, and eventually would lead me to help others with their goals. I am a true believer that what you put into life is what you get out of it, therefore I have a very hard work ethic. I am totally against making excuses, I put 110% of myself in everything I do.
I have found that to be very beneficial when it comes to competing, and with each competition I leave with a whole new set of goals. I find competing to be extremely rewarding. If I look back to the beginning of my competing career, it is incredible to see how much I have changed, not only physically, but I have become stronger in each area of my life. I guess what I love most about competing is the feeling of accomplishing something that takes a lot of work but feels so rewarding.
What Are Your Plans For The Future?
In the future I would like to educate myself more on the human body, as well as continue to get people into shape. I am very passionate about being a personal trainer, and find so much depth in watching someone progress and become stronger in so many ways. I will continue to train and set goals for myself, as well as be a great role model and coach for my clients.
