On The Road To Success Workouts – Summer is round the corner but traveling doesn’t mean you have to skip your workout.
Summer is around the corner which means a lot of us will be traveling, but that’s no excuse to skip out on your workouts if you want to maintain that beach body! If you travel a lot and especially if you are training for a competition there are no excuses on skipping out on your workouts. I am presently training for two competitions coming up this summer and traveling cross country. Being without a gym for almost three days will definitely be a challenge, but the training must go on! This article is to share with you how you can still workout without a gym. Whether if you are staying in a hotel or with family or friends you can take your workouts anywhere! All you need is your own bodyweight, a jumprope, a kettlebell, and a cable. Here are some simple exercises you can choose from and your equipment will hardly even take up any space in your luggage.
Always begin your workouts with a quick 5 minute warmup. Some easy warmups you can do are jumping rope, jump squats, jumping jacks, running in place, high knees, butt kicks, or a combination of all of these.
Upper Body Workouts:
Pushups are a great way to work your chest and arms. All you need is your bodyweight and a chair. You can do these on the floor or at a decline by placing your feet on a chair in your hotel room.
Cables are very versatile. You can use these for bicep curls, tricep extensions, or shoulder presses. When choosing cables test them out before buying to make sure they are challenging enough. For example, if 15 reps is your maximum then you should be able to get in 15 reps, but you should be really pushing to get those last few reps in.
A great way to incorporate upper and lower body exercises are kettlebell swings. Stand in a squat position holding the kettlebell with both hands between your legs. Squat down then raise up and swing the kettlebell up to about the top of your head. You will perform this exercise in fast motion going up and down.
Lower Body Workouts:
Plyometrics can be done almost anywhere since all you really need is your bodyweight. You can use a kettlebell for the first two exercises below if you need to be challenged.
Here is a list of plyometric moves you can perform right in your hotel room or at home:
Frog leapsBox jumps (Find a bench or stairs and jump up and down. Make sure it’s safe and you feel comfortable).
If your hotel doesn’t have a fitness center then no need to fret! This happened to me while traveling, so I had to be creative. Try finding stairs that you can run up and down, or find a parking lot or an empty space for sprinting. Run or lightly jog for about 1 minute then sprint in full blast for 25-30 seconds. Do this for about 20-30 minutes. This is a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) move that helps to burn fat and works your glutes. Jumping rope is another cardio excercise you can do almost anywhere. Even if you don’t have a jump rope or if you struggle using one you can “pretend” you are using one by jumping up and down as high as you can and move your wrists as if you are using a jump rope.
No matter where you travel to there are ways of keeping your body in tip top shape! There’s a plethora of apps on cell phones, videos on the Internet, and programs on television that you can view also to give you ideas to help you stay on the road to success.
