What Made You Turn Your Life Around?

I grew up in a small city in Ukraine on a farm that my parents own. Healthy meals were considered fried pork, mashed potatoes, gravy and a lot of bread with homemade butter. Between working on my parent’s farm and swimming classes in school, being active was part of my life but that all changed when I attended University.

After six months of being a student, I gained weight and got scared. I started practicing Martial Arts, taking step-aerobic classes and doing weights. I would starve myself to death and lose weight only to gain all that weight back and more. I never thought about my nutrition. I was skinny fat and was yo-yo dieting.

I moved to America in 2005 and stress of changing my life, added 35 pounds in first months. I was just comforting myself with food. At 25 years old, five-foot-six and 175 pounds I was very unhappy with how I looked. I got gym membership and started my fight with body fat again. I lost 19 pounds by doing cardio every day and starving myself. I was tired and lost, because I had no idea how to eat right.

Everything changed after meeting Kim Oddo. He explained to me what I was doing that was un-healthy and how I needed to change my nutrition plan. I started with a 12 week transformation program. Amazed with the results of how my body was changing, I decided to go farther and compete in a figure competition. Never in my life I did not think about being on a stage in a teeny-tiny bikini. No Way! But I did it! And it was the best experience of my life. I took 1 place and overall in my second show!

How Did You Do It?

Before meeting Kim Oddo I was doing cardio almost every day for 2 hours, but my nutrition was very bad. I would have protein bar and Red Bull drink for breakfast and go to gym. After workout, I would wait till lunch time and eat big salad (tomatoes, chicken, cheese, olives and olive oil). I could eat whole bag of trail mix, thinking it is healthy. Dinner for me was just “healthy and light”: apples, grapes, apricots, plums…

I never watch my meal portions and now I know that it was my biggest mistake. Kim put together nutrition plan for me, and I still follow this plan.

What Helped You Stay Motivated?

Seeing my abs! I could not believe that I have them!

What Was Your Approach To Training?

Cardio every day before breakfast (35-50 min), weights workouts after lunch and one more cardio after dinner (35-50 min). Weights workouts 4-5 days a week. 3-4 sets with 15/12/10/8 reps adding more weight for next set.

What Does Your Training Plan Look Like?

DAY 1: Back and Calves
DAY 2: Shoulders and Biceps
DAY 3: Legs
DAY 4: Rest Day
DAY 5: Chest, Triceps and Abs
DAY 6: Back and Calves
DAY 7: Rest Day

What Was Your Approach To Nutrition?

Kim put together nutrition plan for me, and I still follow this plan. At first it was very hard for me to eat 6-7 meals a day! I thought, it’s too much!!!

I am eating every 2.5 – 3 hours.

What Does Your Nutrition Plan Look Like?

MEAL 1: 4-5 egg whites & 1/2 cup oats
MEAL 2: Protein shake & an apple
MEAL 3: 4 oz chicken breast, veggies or salad & 4 oz yam
MEAL 4: Protein shake & 15 almonds or Peanut Butter
MEAL 5: 4 oz chicken breast veggies
MEAL 6: 5 oz white fish, salad & 15 almonds
MEAL 7: 4-5 egg whites & flax seeds

Did You Allow Yourself Any Cheat Meals?

Usually I don’t plan my cheat meals. I just know, if I have been good all week with my nutrition, I can reward myself with my favorite food. I love steak, or tuna steak salad. PB with apples or baked yam.
