Lou Ferrigno Biography

Lou Ferrigno was born on November the 9th 1951, in Brooklyn, New York and is a retired IFBB professional Bodybuilder. Lou is well known for his role as the Hulk from his television series The Incredible Hulk.

Lou holds many bodybuilding titles including a IFBB Mr. America title and two IFBB Mr. Universe titles

As an infant, Lou suffered an ear infection which caused him to lose some of his hearing. As a young teenager Lou was teased about his hearing where he was called “Deaf Louie” this was what motivated Lou to start bodybuilding which led to his memorable role as the Hulk.

Bodybuilding Career

Lou ferrigno started bodybuilding at the age of 13 and after he graduated in 1969 from Brooklyn Technical High school he went on to win his first major bodybuilding titles, winning both the IFBB Mr. America and IFBB Mr. Universe titles. In 1974, Lou decided to take his first attempt at the Mr.Olympia contest where he placed second. The following year he placed third where he took his attempt to beat Arnold Schwarzenegger, this was the subject of the 1975 documentary Pumping Iron.

Lou decided to take a break, which lasted a few years and he didn’t return to bodybuilding until 1990, Lou competed in the1992 and 1993 Mr. Olympia where respectively placed 12th and 10th, he then decided to try the Masters Olypia, where he placed second to Robby Robinson in 1994. After Lou decided to retired from competition.

Acting Career

In 1977 Lou signed up with Universal Studios which led to his role as the Hulk in the TV series The Incredible Hulk. Lou continued to play the role as the Hulk until 1981, although the final episodes were not broadcast until May 1982.

In 2003 Lou made an appearance as a security guard in the film Hulk and was also in a deleted scene. Lou has had many guest appearances and advertisements, including one for LongHorn Steakhouse.

In 2008 lou also appeared as another security guard in the hit film The Incredible Hulk and also played the voice of Hulk.

In 2009 he plyed himself in the comedy I Love You, Man.

Lou also worked with Micheal Jackson, helping him train for his 2009 – 2010 concerts before his death. lou had also worked with micheal in the past.

In 2010, he appeared in an episode of “Sonny with a Chance” as himself. In his appearing scene, he is on an episode of “McKenzie Falls” (A show within the show) about to fight with “Chad Dylan Cooper” a character on “McKenzie Falls.”

Life Today

Today, Lou is more focused on helping other with bodybuilding rather then acting. He has his own book Lou Ferrigno’s Guide to Personal Power, Bodybuilding, and Fitness.

Lou is married Carla Green, who is now a personal trainer, they have three children, Shanna, born 1981, Louis Jr., born 1984; and Brent, born 1990.

Lou still trains on a daily basis and sells his own line of fitness equipment through his company, Ferrigno Fitness. In a January 2009 taping, Ferrigno Fitness provided equipment to The Price Is Right, hosted by Drew Carey for use as a One Bid prize, and he demonstrated the equipment himself, including a mention as part of the prize.
